Western and northern India feel the heat

New Delhi : It felt like a midsummer day in India’s financial capital Thursday as the mercury rose to 37 degrees Celsius, a full six degrees above normal. People in northern India too have started to feel the heat as ground realities belie thermometer readings.

Panaji was almost as hot at 36 degrees, nearly five degrees above normal, while Nagpur and Pune saw highs 32 and 36 degrees respectively.

The maximum temperature in the national capital Thursday was around 27 degrees, as it has been for the last few days, but people felt the heat more, thanks to a clear sky.

The minimum temperature was around 10 degrees, making for a slight nip in the air.

The marked difference in the day and night temperatures was seen all over northern India. Lucknow saw the mercury swing between 27 and nine degrees.

The Met office has forecast the heat rising in northern and western India in the coming days.
