Ban Ki Moon Meets Cuban Foreign Minister

United Nations : Cuban Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque met on Thursday with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and General Assembly chairman Srgjan Kerim, whom he invited to visit Cuba.

Sources from the Cuban delegation said that the Un Secretary General handed over to Perez Roque a written message addressed to the new Cuban President Raul Castro, wishing him the best.

He also wished Fidel Castro a prompt recovery.

The reform of the UN Secretariat, the work of the Council on Human Rights were among the topics discussed.

They also spoke about the international covenants on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and on Civil and Political Rights Perez Roque signed today on behalf of the Cuban government.

The Cuban official invited both Ban Ki Moon and the chairman of the General Assembly to attend the Non-Aligned Movement ministerial meeting to be held in Tehran at a yet to be determined date.

The agenda of the Cuban foreign minister at the UN headquarters is expected to conclude with a meeting with the Non-Aligned coordinating bureau.
