Good win for Saptarishi at Hastings chess

Hastings (Britain) : The Indian trio at the Hastings International Chess Congress tournament experienced varying results in the fifth round.

Saptarishi Roy Chowdhury was the lone one to register a win Tuesday, beating Oliver Jackson of England to take his tally to 3.5 points. He is now half a point behind the lead group, which has as many as six players with four points each.

S. Satyapragyan drew his encounter England’s David Ledger, while Deep Sengupta went down to English Grandmaster Stuart Conquest. Both Satyapragyan and Sengupta have three points each. Conquest has now joined the lead group of six players.

Overnight sole leader Mark Hebden of England was held to a draw by 18-year-old German youngster Falko Bindrich in a surprise result. Hebden continues to be a joint leader at four points.

Roy Chowdhury will face Bindrich in the sixth round, while Sengupta takes on Ledger and Satyapragyan will meet Mehdi Hasan, former Bangladesh national junior champion.
