Hyderabad : Four months after the terror attack, the spectacular laser show at the Lumbini Park was revived here Tuesday, but with stepped up security measures.
Andhra Pradesh Governor N.D. Tiwari Tuesday evening inaugurated the laser show at the park, on the banks of the picturesque Hussain Sagar Lake.
Twelve people were killed when a powerful bomb exploded during the show in the open-air auditorium Aug 25. Minutes later, another blast at a well-known eatery in the city killed 32 people.
The Buddha Purnima Project Authority (BPPA), which looks after tourism projects around the lake, re-opened the lasarium after ensuring the structural stability of the premises.
Though the park, which was closed to the public immediately after the blast, re-opened a few days later, the lasarium was not reopened till the structural stability of the premises was improved and foolproof security ensured.
The BPPA has stepped up security measures and screening of visitors to the park and lasarium. Metal detectors have been installed and security personnel posted to frisk visitors at the entrance. The authorities have also installed closed circuit television cameras to keep an eye on the movement of visitors.
The lasarium accommodates 2,000 people at a time. The park is located opposite the state secretariat, the seat of the state government, and is thronged by thousands of visitors every day.
