Joydeep topples Rajput’s rifle prone national record

Ahmedabad : Joydeep Karmakar of Indian Railways clinched the gold medal in 50 meter rifle prone men’s event and created a new national record beating Olympian Sanjeev Rajput’s previous record.

Joydeep shot an excellent score of 700.7 (598+102.7) and erased Rajput’s previous record of 698 (596+102) created during the Indore edition of the championship last year.

There was another national record broken in the 50 meter Rifle prone category but this time it was in the junior section. Akash Kumar Ravi Das of NCC won the gold medal with a score of 596 out of 600 and established a new National Record toppling the record of Sushil Ghaley’s 593 score created at Phillaur during the year 2000.Team-mate Atul Wade won the silver with 589, while bronze went to Tenzin Dhonyoe of Army with 582.

In the 50 meter Air Pistol men’s event, Bapu Vanzare of Army won the gold with a score of 677.9 (578+99.9) and silver and bronze went to CISF’s Samaresh Jung (677.4) and Gurpal Singh of Army (100.4).
