New Delhi : Air Marshal P.S. Bhangu has taken over as Senior Air Staff Officer (SASO) of the prestigious Western Air Command of the Indian Air Force (IAF) here.
“He brings with him a wealth of experience in strategic, tactical, flight safety and staff matters,” an IAF release said Thursday.
An alumnus of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, Bhangu, during his illustrious career, has served in a number of fighter squadrons and achieved A2 category flying instructor and fighter combat leader status.
He has commanded a frontline fighter squadron and the prestigious Tactics and Air Combat Development Establishment (TACDE) at Gwalior. He has over 4,500 hours of combat flying experience.
Bhangu has also held the appointments as joint director (air defence) and director (flight safety), flying instructor in a friendly foreign country, and air attaché at the Indian embassy in Moscow.
In addition, he also held the appointment of director general of the Air Force Naval Housing Board, assistant chief of air staff (personnel officers) and assistant chief of air staff (personnel airmen and civilians) at the air headquarters.
Bhangu was decorated with the Ati Vishist Seva Medal (AVSM) in 1966 for his exceptional devotion to duty, the IAF release said.
