Bangkok : Nearly 400 people have been killed, and more than 4,000 injured, in road accidents across Thailand during New Year revelry, the interior ministry said Thursday.
Among all Thai provinces, Bangkok witnessed the highest number of casualties, followed by Khon Kaen and Nakhon Pathom provinces. Twenty people have been killed in the capital city alone.
According to the ministry, drunk driving caused 42 percent of death or injury, while rest of the incidents were blamed on over-speeding and reckless driving.
The highest number of deaths on road was recorded on Dec 30, 2007 with 85 people killed in accidents across the country.
