Lucknow : With suspicion gaining ground about the involvement of an “insider” in Tuesday’s terrorist attack on a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp in Rampur, the investigating team of the Uttar Pradesh police Thursday detained a CRPF constable from Kashmir for interrogation.

The constable hails from Baramula district in the Kashmir valley and was currently attached with the Rampur unit where seven CRPF personnel were gunned down during a pre-dawn attack by suspected Kashmiri militants.

Earlier, state additional director general of police and Special Task Force (STF) chief Brij Lal had hinted about the “possible connivance of an insider”.

While authorities were tight-lipped about the detention of the suspect, a top source disclosed, “the jawan was suspected to have some nexus with those who stormed the CRPF camp”.

The source did not rule out the possibility of the constable having got inducted into the crack para-military force with a long-term objective of taking up the job of an informer for militants.

“Several such instances have come to light where terrorist groups have got their agents recruited into security forces,” he pointed out.

Barring the arrest, sleuths have failed to get any major clue about the attack.
