Six including five women killed in stampede during religious ceremony

NEW DELHI, Jan 3 (APP): Six persons including five women were killed in a stampede during a religious ceremony near Kanakdurga temple in Andhra Pradesh state on Thursday.

According to news channels, thousands of Hindu devotees assembled at Durga Ghat on the occasion of the last day of ‘Bhavani Deeksha’. Stampede broke out when the people push each other.

One child was also killed while 18 persons were injured during the stampede.

Police said, 10 injured persons were admitted to the local hospital.

An inquiry into the incident has been ordered. The state government has also announced compensation for the victims.
