Harbhajan completes double of 1,000 runs and 200 wickets

Sydney : Harbhajan Singh, who completed 250 scalps in the first Test at Melbourne, achieved another landmark when he totalled 1,000 Test runs during the course of his innings of 63 here Friday.

It was Harbhajan’s second best score after his 66 against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo in 2001. He also has a 55 against England at Nottingham in 2002.

With 1,056 runs and 253 wickets in 62 Tests, Harbhajan has become only the fourth Indian allrounder after Kapil Dev (5,248 runs and 434 wickets in 131 Tests), Anil Kumble (2,277 runs and 595 wickets in 123 Tests) and Javagal Srinath (1,009 runs and 236 wickets in 67 Tests) to accomplish the double of 1,000 runs and 200 wickets.

With Sachin Tendulkar at the other end, Harbhajan put on 129 runs for the eighth wicket. It was India’s best stand for the eighth wicket against Australia, overtaking the 127 between Syed Kirmani and Karsan Ghavri at Wankhede Stadium, Bombay in 1979-80.
