Islamabad, Jan 8, IRNA, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has said it would not give up its demand for a UN probe into the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, saying the Party will continue to agitate at all available forums.
In a statement today a spokesman of the Party former Senator Farhatullah Babar said that if the present regime did not approach the UN then the future PPP government would formally urge the UN for probing the assassination a la inquiry the murder of Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.
He said that caretaker Interior Minister’s rejection on Monday of the Party’s demand for UN investigations smacked of a cover up.
He said that the Party had no faith in the investigations ordered by the regime.
“The Scotland Yard team had only been asked to probe the caused of death and not the perpetrators, financiers, executioners or organizers of the conspiracy.”
The spokesman said that the Party would soon write to foreign governments and also send delegations abroad to seek international assistance in pressuring the regime to invite UN probe.
The role of the Scotland Yard investigators had already been circumscribed as they have been told to work under Pakistani investigators and not permitted to question the suspects named in Mohtarma Bhutto’s letter of Oct 16 to General Musharraf.
The issue of who ordered the erasing of evidence has also raised questions that need to be answered.
