Chemoil’s Indian-born CEO dies in helicopter crash

Singapore : Leading marine fuel supplier Chemoil Energy’s Chief Executive Officer Indian-born Robert V. Chandran has died from injuries sustained in a helicopter crash in Indonesia, the company announced Tuesday.

The helicopter crashed in Riau province on Jan 6. Chandran, 57, died Monday.

Terence Gidlow, the vice-president of business development, accompanying Chandran also sustained injuries but was in a stable condition, the statement said.

Born in Mumbai, Chandran founded Chemoil in 1982. It became one of the world’s largest supplier of marine fuels.

“The board of directors are in discussion on succession issues to ensure business continuity,” the statement said.

Shares of Chemoil slumped on the Singapore Exchange Tuesday.
