Islamabad : Unknown armed-men shot dead eight pro-government tribal elders in South Waziristan tribal agency, along Afghan border, in two separate incidents, officials said on Monday.
Armed gunmen riding motorcycles sprayed bullets at the office of a local Taliban peace committee in Wana bazaar, security officials told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA). They said three tribal elders were killed on the spot. In a separate incident, officials said further, gunmen killed five tribal elders in late night attacks on their homes.
The tribal elders were scheduled to meet on Monday in an effort to broker a ceasefire between militants and troops in the volatile Pakistani tribal region.
