Patna : Bihar legislator Anant Singh of the ruling Janata Dal-United (JD-U) was Tuesday named an accused in the murder of his close relative, Sanjay Singh.
A police complaint was filed Tuesday evening against the controversial legislator from Mokama for the killing of Sanjay Singh, a contractor, in broad daylight in the heart of Patna Tuesday noon.
“Anant Singh was named as main conspirator in Sanjay Singh’s killing,” a police official said. Four others were also named accused in the killing.
Sanjay Singh’s nephew Raja Parikshit, who was main witness in the killing, lodged a First Information Report in which he named Anant Singh as conspirator.
Singh, considered close to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and seen as a terror in Bihar, has over two dozen criminal charges against him. He was arrested with four of his henchmen for attacking journalists on Nov 1 last year.
In 2004, Singh was seen brandishing an AK-47 rifle in public but no action was taken against him. Under the law, only security personnel are allowed to carry the assault rifle.
Sanjay Singh’s elder brother Arvind Singh has also alleged that his brother was killed at the behest of Anant Singh.
