Vientiane : Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 7 January in Vientiane organized a meeting to review the 23rd Francophonie ministerial meeting held in Vientiane last year. Thongloun Sisoulith, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs chaired the function and were attended by senior officials concern including Soubanh Sirithirath, Minister to the Presidential Palace.
During the meeting, a number of works prepared by Lao side was highlighted including the achievements and remained issues.
Francophonie ministers approved the discussion topic proposed by Laos, ‘French language: an instrument of solidarity and the promotion of linguistic and cultural diversity’.
During the conference, the minister responsible for Francophonie affairs in Laos, Soubanh Sritthirath, explained the Lao proposal, which was then accepted by all member countries.
Delegates at the meeting requested that the International Organisation of Francophonie consider increasing financial support for promoting the use of French in South East Asia, where French-speaking communities are surrounded by countries that use English as a second language.
