Musharraf for personal strong support for the Pak-US bilateral relationship

Islamabad : Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf Wednesday voiced strong support for the bilateral relationship between the US and Pakistan, emphasizing on the need for continued efforts to further expand bilateral cooperation in all areas of common interest. The President in a meeting with US Senator Joseph Liebermann (Independent-Connecticut), a leading member of the US Senate, underscored the importance of a broad-based and long-term strategic relationship between the two war allies, said a press release.

He also reaffirmed the governments resolve to conduct a thorough and comprehensive investigation into the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.

The President thanked Senator Liebermann for his statement of support and solidarity with Pakistan following the tragic assassination of Ms Bhutto.

President Musharraf reiterated Pakistans commitment to fight terrorism and extremism and underlined the importance of a comprehensive strategy combining military efforts with administrative reform and socio-economic development. During the meeting Pakistan-US relations, counter-terrorism cooperation and domestic and regional developments came under discussion.

Senator Liebermann said that the United States placed great importance on its relations with Pakistan. The two countries were involved in a joint struggle against terrorism and extremism. He lauded Pakistans contribution and sacrifices in this endeavour.
