Fifteen of them were killed in Thursday’s fighting while 10 were killed Friday. The fighting took place in the northern Jaffna peninsula’s Muhamalai area and Mannar district.

Meanwhile, the air force said fighter-bombers carried out air raids on a Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) facility at Alampil in the northern Mullaithivu district Friday morning.

“The pilots have reported targets were taken successfully,” an official said.

Violence in the island’s armed conflict is set to blow into a full-scale war after the government on Jan 2 announced that they would unilaterally withdraw from the Norwegian backed ceasefire agreement on Jan 16.
