New Delhi : India Saturday called for a political solution to the protracted ethnic conflict in neighbouring Sri Lanka and said that military action would not ensure peace in the island nation. “There cannot be a military solution to the conflict in Sri Lanka. A political solution will be the best for Colombo,” India’s Defence Minister A K Antony told reporters on the sidelines of a defence meet at Delhi today. The Sri Lankan government has decided to pull out of the ceasefire agreement with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) but hinted to hold peace talks with the rebel group.
Several have been killed in the recent months in clashes between the government and the LTTE in embattled Northern Sri Lanka.
