The party also said, if needed, it would stall the proceedings of the house Monday until a “corrupt minister resigns”.

Taking a serious note of the charges levelled by an independent legislator, Shoaib Lone, in the assembly Friday that a minister had taken a bribe of Rs.40,000 from him, the National Conference convened a meeting of its legislature party here Saturday evening and decided to raise the issue in the “most forceful fashion” by moving an adjournment motion.

A senior legislator of the party told IANS that this had become necessary because of the seriousness of the allegations.

“Never before any MLA (Member of Legislative Assembly) has levelled such charges against a minister,” said leader of the opposition and National Conference leader Abdul Rahim Rather.

“First, we would like to know who the minister is, and secondly, whether he resigns, and thirdly whether Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad sacks him,” he said.

Shoaib Lone, legislator from Sangrama in north Kashmir, had alleged he had paid a bribe of Rs.40,000 to get a job done. He did not name the minister, but he promised that he would confide in the chief minister.

Azad was not in the legislative assembly at that point of time. He left for Delhi Friday and is scheduled to return Sunday.
