Beijing : India and China still have differences but these are overshadowed by their common interests, a Chinese newspaper said Monday to mark Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s maiden trip to Beijing.
“Their common interests outweigh their differences,” the English-language China Daily said in an editorial. “This is the very reason they are capable of pursuing peace and prosperity together.”
The daily also said that an eventual settlement of the border dispute between China and India, which sparked a war in 1962, “will depend on wisdom, vision and flexibility” the two sides show. “It is unrealistic to expect a solution from a single meeting.”
The editorial described as “belated” the first visit to China by Manmohan Singh, who flew into Beijing Sunday for three days of engagements with Chinese leaders and society.
