Eleven agreements in pipeline, include Joint Declaration

Beijing : Eleven agreements, including a Joint Declaration signifying a broad convergence of views on major issues including the border, will be signed between India and China after their official talks Monday, according to reliable sources.

The agreements include those on railway, coal, economic planning, science and technology, exchange of medical mission, two agreements on culture, and may have “some surprises”, according to the sources.

Initially, before Prime Minister Manmohan Singh left for Beijing Saturday night, it did not appear the two sides would be able to muster more than four to six agreements on non-controversial issues.

But an informal dinner conversation – free of protocol constraints and called a great success by those few who attended it – between Manmohan Singh and his Chinese counterpart Wen Jiabao seems to have spurred the two sides to push for more agreements that were still being worked out late Sunday night.
