Indo-US defense talks start Monday

Washington : Amid burgeoning Indo-US ties, senior officials from the United States and India are meeting here Monday for four-day high-level talks to expand defense cooperation, including in production and procurement of arms and equipment.

The Indian delegation headed by defense secretary Vijay Singh will hold parleys with US officials led by Ambassador Eric Edelman, the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy at the meeting of the Defense Policy Group (DPG) on Wednesday and Thursday, the Press Trust of India (PTI) reported.

Before that, the Defense Production and Procurement Group meeting will be held with the Indian side headed by the Director General of Acquisitions S.K. Sharma.

This will be the eighth meeting of the Defense Policy Group (DPG) which continues to be the primary mechanism to guide the India-US defense relationship. It held its seventh meeting on November 21-23, 2007.
