Colombo : Sri Lanka Friday announced that it will continue its military operations against Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam rebels, despite of its declaration of respecting the February 22, 2002 ceasefire.
Government spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella told press in Colombo of the official decision, also saying that the troops will totally free the south Asian country from violence.
That rejection of the Sri Lankan authorities came a few hours after the LTTE announced that they are ready to fulfil each clause of the cease of fire agreement and respect it totally.
The government informed of its withdrawal from that pact on January 2, a decision that will be implemented on Jan. 16, following mutual violations since 2005.
However, that government decision has been criticized worldwide, including Canada and Norway, and the US announced that it stopped selling military equipment to the Sri Lankan government.
