Brasilia : A 24-year-old man died of yellow fever in Goiania on Jan. 2, the Department of Health of the Brazilian state of Goias said Monday.
Goias had registered nine other suspected cases. The medical results of a 41-year-old Spaniard who died last Saturday in Goiania, will be available Tuesday, the department said.
The Brazilian federal government confirmed last Thursday that a38-year-old man fell victim to yellow fever and died last Tuesday.
Brazilian Health Minister Jose Gomes Temporao played down Sunday a mass yellow fever outbreak.
Yellow fever is an acute viral disease transmitted to humans by infected mosquitoes. To prevent the disease, one should take vaccination against at least 10 days before traveling to areas suspected to be at risk. Once taken, the vaccination will be valid for 10 years.
