Paris : Phone threats against Louis Sarkozy, the youngest son of the French president, were confirmed by Interior Minister Michele Alliot-Marie Tuesday, but she suggested the threats were the work of unbalanced persons.
Two individuals are due to appear in court next month for having threatened the 10-year-old son of the president over a period dating from last summer and ending in early January, French weekly “Le Point” reported.
The interior minister, speaking on “Europe 1” radio confirmed that Louis Sarkozy had received death threats on a mobile phone, which apparently belonged to his mother, Cecilia.
“Unfortunately, these are things that sometimes happen,” Alliot-Marie told the French radio.
“You have people who are unbalanced, who think they are smart, who want to blackmail, who use these methods,” she added.
According to “Le Point,” an employee of one of the mobile phone operators managed to obtain a list of well-known people and their numbers, among them Cecilia Sarkozy, the now ex-wife of the President, and he gave this number to an accomplice who made the threats.
Upon a request from the French leader, police and anti-terrorist investigators opened an investigation and apprehended the two culprits.
