Ahmedabad : Shaktisinh Gohil, named leader of the Congress Legislature Party in the assembly, has warned the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government against attempting to steam-roll the opposition in the house.

The 41-year-old suave legislator from the Bhavnagar South constituency said the party has entrusted a big responsibility to him.

“I shall strive my best to live up to the party’s expectations and deliver results,” Gohil told IANS Thursday.

The eldest scion of the erstwhile royal family of Limda in Saurashtra region is a no non-sense man. A very keen participant in assembly proceedings, he has proved himself to be a live wire whenever the occasion demanded.

Prior to the 2007 elections he was the chief spokesperson for the state Congress. He was a minister of state during 1991-95 in the Chimanbhai Patel ministry and has held important portfolios of finance, education, health, environment and the Narmada Dam project.

He was the chief whip of the legislative party during 1995-98. He has been a member of the All India Congress Committee since 1990.
