Jerusalem : Israel Security Agency, or Shin Bet, and Israeli army have recently destroyed an Islamic Jihad terror ring suspected of planning series of bombings against Israeli targets, local Yedioth Ahronoth reported on Thursday.
In a joint operation last month, Shin Bet and Israel Defense Forces arrested four Palestinians from Bethlehem suspected of planning numerous attacks against Israel, including derailment of passenger trains from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, according to the report.
Their arrest was cleared for publication Thursday afternoon.
The four Palestinian cell members also confessed in the questioning that they intended to bomb Israeli cars on Route 60, attack a local security patrol unit belonging to the Beitar Illit settlement, hurl improvised grenades at a military vehicle and steal the soldiers’ weapons.
They studied explosives on-line, purchased the necessary materials and were attempting to raise funds, the report said.
The military operation also uncovered an explosives laboratory used by the military cell, which had already assembled a functional explosive device.
