The military research considered that the powerful detonations from explosives used by Iraqi and Afghan rebels to confront foreign occupation are the main cause of the cerebral damage.

Medical service Col. Jonathan Jaffin called the situation really dangerous, considering the difficulties it generates, especially in victims’ relations with their families and comrades in arms.

It also causes a kind of madness in the soldiers, a symptom that could be mitigated with opportune diagnosis and treatment, Jaffin said.

For neurology experts, the most serious aspect is that the pathology goes unnoticed and by the time alarming symptoms appear, the damage is irreversible.

CNN reported the number of US soldiers wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan exceeds 30,000.
