Man fleeing Bangladesh nabbed in Orissa

Bhubaneswar : A Bangladeshi national, who fled his country after conviction in a murder case, has been arrested in Orissa’s temple town Puri for a series of crimes, police said Monday.

Police raided a guesthouse in Puri, 55 km from here, and detained Arman Islam, 40, identified as a resident of Bikrampur village under the Srinagar police station in Dhaka district.

Islam told police that he had been absconding since a Bangladesh court sentenced him to life imprisonment for murdering two people in that country, a senior district police official told IANS.

After fleeing from Bangladesh, he was living in West Bengal along with his family and often visited Puri. He confessed he had been involved in several crimes including robbery, forgery and theft in India, the police claimed.

“We have informed the police of West Bengal and Bangladesh and sought from them details about Islam,” the police official said.

A police team from West Bengal has arrived here and started investigations, he added.
