Rome : Italian Premier Romano Prodi faced a showdown in Parliament as his shaky, 20-month-old government teetered on the verge of collapse Tuesday following the withdrawal of support of a coalition ally.
Prodi was expected to seek a confidence vote in the lower Chamber of Deputies, where he was scheduled to brief lawmakers later Tuesday on the crisis, the Apcom and ANSA news agencies reported.
ANSA said the confidence vote would take place Wednesday.
