Paris : Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf is meeting late Tuesday with French leader Nicolas Sarkozy as part of a two-day visit here within a broader four-nation, European tour.
The Pakistani President arrived Monday night in the French capital and will kick off his contacts Tuesday in the late morning with a speech before the French Institute for Foreign Relations (IFRI), a renowned think tank here.
Musharraf will hold talks with French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner over lunch and meet with Sarkozy in the evening.
The Pakistani leader arrived here from Belgium, where he said his aim was to explain to Europeans his governments position on the current situation in Pakistan and relative to forthcoming elections to be held on February 18. Those elections were postponed from January 8 because of the assassination of opposition figure Benazir Bhutto on December 27.
Sarkozy is expected to issue a strong message of support for Pakistan and its leader in the area of the fight against terrorism and the French President will also support the democratic process in that country.
Musharraf is also planning to visit Britain and Switzerland, where he will attend the World Economic Forum at Davos.
