Mosul (Iraq) : An explosion in a residential building in the northern Iraqi town of Mosul has left seven people dead and nearly 60 injured, a top police official said Wednesday.
The blast inside the residential building was a terror attack, Brigadier Abdul Krarim al-Jubury of Mosul police told Xinhua.
The blast took place about 4.10 p.m. (1.10 p.m. GMT) when the Iraqi security forces and the US troops were about to enter the building on a tip-off that explosives were stored inside the building, according to the police officer.
Witnesses said that the explosion was very powerful and caused dozens of casualties including women and children.
Mosul, some 400 km north of capital Baghdad, has been the hotbed of insurgency and sectarian violence since the US-led invasion in 2003.
