NEW DELHI, Jan. 23 APP: The former Indian Foreign Secretary Salman Haider said the United States was trying to block Iran, Pakistan-India pipeline project as it did not like Iran to expand its contacts in the area.
While talking to reporters in Kochi in Kerala state on Wednesday on the sidelines of a conference on ‘India/China/US Triangle’, the former Foreign Secretary said “ the US was trying to block the project as it does not want Iran to expand its contacts in the Asian region and this deprives us of a very important opportunity for improving our relations with Pakistan”.
India was a fuel deficit country and it wanted gas supplies from Iran to meet demands of its growing economy. This project would augur well for India’s future, he said.
