Tendulkar becomes series top scorer on either side

Adelaide, Jan 25 (IANS) With his masterful 153 in the second innings of the fourth Test against Australia here Friday, Sachin Tendulkar became the top scorer on either side, taking his series tally to 480 – exactly 100 more than his nearest rival.

Tendulkar has scored his runs at an excellent average of 80.00. His aggregate includes two centuries and as many half-centuries.

Andrew Symonds is the current top scorer for Australia and he has tallied 380 at an average of 76.00. He is yet to bat in the first innings of the ongoing match at the Adelaide Oval.

With his 205-ball knock Thursday and Friday, Tendulkar became the fourth Indian to post an innings of 150 or more at this venue, joining compatriot Rahul Dravid (233 in 2003-04), Sandeep Patil (174 in 1980-81) and Sunil Gavaskar (166 not out in 1985-86).

Tendulkar’s 39th Test century, made at a strike rate of 74.63, is his 17th score of 150-plus. Only West Indian Brian Lara (19) and Australia’s Don Bradman (18) have posted more 150-plus innings than the Indian.

Tendulkar has recorded nine innings of 150-plus on foreign soil while Steve Waugh of Australia and Lara have posted 10 each.
