“Unknown gunmen stormed a house in Baghdad’s northeastern neighborhood of Ur, killing an old man and two women and wounding their son,” the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The attack took place on Saturday night, the source said, adding that investigations are underway.

On Sunday, a roadside bomb planted near an Iraqi army checkpoint in the Waziriyah neighborhood in northern Baghdad, detonated at about 7:30 a.m. (0430 GMT), wounding a soldier, the source said.

Also in the capital, the police said that their patrols picked up an unidentified bullet-riddled body during the past 24 hours.

Violence and daily gruesome finding of unidentified bodies continue in Baghdad despite the announcement of the U.S. and Iraqi officials about a steep drop of violence as a result of a major security plan aimed at checking the insurgency and sectarian strife.
