While some members opted to convene the General Assembly’s tenth emergency special session on the Middle East, others preferred to refer the deadlock to the capitals and wait for instructions.

They decided to meet again next Thursday after they receive instructions.

The group gave up the idea of presenting a draft resolution on the situation in Gaza in the council because they were told only five council members would vote for it and that it would get at least three vetoes. In the meantime, the council is scheduled to meet in an open session today Wednesday to hear a debate and the monthly briefing from a UN official on the situation in the Middle East in general.
