Cold wave shuts Punjab primary schools for a week

Chandigarh : The Punjab government Thursday ordered the closure of all primary schools, kindergarten to class five, to be closed for a week from Friday following intense cold wave in the state.

A state government spokesperson said Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal gave the order for closure of schools Thursday.

The closure order will apply to all government and private schools in the state.

Teachers in these institutions will, however, continue to report for duty, the spokesman added.

In recent days, the minimum temperature in several places in Punjab and Chandigarh has touched the reached freezing point.
