Bangalore : City residents and visitors who depend heavily on three-wheeled autorickshaws for commuting will have to dig deeper into their pockets from Friday as fares go up by nearly 20 percent.
The minimum fare for 2 km will go up by Rs.2, from Rs.12 to Rs.14. The increment after that would be Rs.7 per km instead of the earlier Rs.6.
Drivers and owners of the over 70,000 autos that ply daily in the IT hub were demanding that the minimum fare be fixed at Rs.15 and per km at Rs 7.50, as auto gas price has risen sharply over the last few months.
Auto operators threatened to keep their vehicles off the roads from Thursday if the Regional Transport Authority did not agree to their demand.
However, the threat was not carried out. The operators, however, plan a series of agitations to press their demand.
