Steel Authority to maintain prices in July

New Delhi : The state-run Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) Tuesday said it will maintain its prices for the domestic market during July, and has asked its dealers to ensure the same for consumers.

“Sail is maintaining the same price level for the domestic market in the month of July 2008 as well,” the company said in a statement, adding that it had resisted an increase in prices both in May and June.

“Sail would urge the user industries, other consumers, as well as trading channels to ensure that this price benefit gets passed on to ultimate consumers,” the statement by the company added.

The public sector company has also been making more steel available in the domestic market, with a 37-percent increase in supplies in June over the like month of last fiscal, to garner a sales of 1.08 million tonnes.

In the case of bars and hot rolled coils, the sales were up 74 percent and 20 percent, respectively, the company said.
