Paris : Olivier Besancenot, leader of the Communist Revolutionary League of France, refuted Tuesday the belief that the six months France will serve as president of the European Union will be healthy for France, as stated by French President Nicolas Sarkozy.
“He makes a lot of announcements, but he knows quite well that the crisis is in front of him, at social and economic level,” he told French newspaper Le Figaro.
Besancenot said he did not expect too much from the French presidency of the regional bloc, and criticized the fact that the local government spends nearly a million euros in the field of communication, in initiatives and conferences, which would amount to 200 million by December.
Sarkozy would do better if he gave the money to fishermen, he said in reference to the current crisis of the sector because of the rise in the price of oil.
Immigration, energy, the environment and climate change, defense and the initiative of the Union for the Mediterranean are Sarkozy’s priorities during his EU presidential mandate.
