Israeli bourse saw another no trading day due to strike

By Xinhua,

Jerusalem : The Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE)carried out no trading Tuesday as its employees went on a strike.

“TASE’s employees did not activate trading and clearing computers this morning, Tuesday 1st July 2008. Therefore, trading and clearing will not take place at the usual timetable,” the bourse said in a statement, adding that it will update its operation timetable when the strike ends.

Yet till the end of the trading day, the exchange saw no sign of restoring normal operations, while Israel business news service Globes reported that the trading will resume on Wednesday, adding that the employees are protesting outsourcing terms.

This is not the first time that TASE trading was disrupted by a strike. On April 7, the bourse suspended its trading for hours due to a labor dispute between the TASE management and 80 outsourcing workers. And on June 19, the exchange did not open for trade due to a strike by support staff who are seeking wage hikes.
