Karachi : Pakistan’s stand-in captain Misbah-ul-Haq was basking in the glory of a stunning eight-wicket triumph over India here at the National Stadium Wednesday night that kept the hosts alive in the Asia Cup.
“It’s a wonderful start for me as a captain,” the middle-order batsman said at a post-match press conference. “The credit goes to the team. The boys came back well after India got off to a good start. We knew the score was gettable on this track. I just told them to be positive.”
Pakistan had a cakewalk, reaching a seemingly tough victory target of 309 with the help of a superb 123 not out by Younis Khan.
Misbah was all praise for Younis’s match-winning knock. “He (Younis) is a great batsman and proved that yet again today.”
He was also pleased with an impressive debut by off-spinner Saeed Ajmal.
“Ajmal’s was a wonderful performance, especially against India who play spin very well”.
Misbah is now looking forward to Pakistan’s last Super-Four game against Bangladesh Friday, saying the hosts are facing a simple equation.
“It’s very simple against Bangladesh. We have to just go out there and win comprehensively.”
