200 people arrested, Indore still tense

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): More than two hundred persons have been arrested in connection with the riot that erupted during BJP-VHP called nationwide bandh on Friday in Indore. At least seven persons were killed in the violence.

Though the police claim normalcy in the situation, tension is still felt in the atmosphere of the city. According to the police, two policemen have been arrested in connection with the murder of one person in Khujrana during the riots.

The riot erupted on Friday because of the bandh when bandh supporters tried to force Muslim shopkeepers in the Muslim-dominated areas to down their shutters.

The police have continued with the curfew though a few hours of relaxation were given to milkmen, newspaper hawkers and women. The police may give further relaxation on the curfew if the situation doesn’t deteriorate.

The police raided many houses of the city to arrest the anti-social elements who were involved in the rioting and the subsequent incidents of burnings.

Meanwhile the state government has announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs one lakh to the closed ones of the deceased, 50,000 to the seriously injured and 10,000 to the persons with minor injuries.

After the spread of riots curfew were imposed in Khujrana, Malharganj,Pindrinath and Chatripur areas.
