Bqaghdad : The Multi National Forces (MNF) in Iraq announced Monday the start of a military operation targeting Al-Qaeda in the Diyala governorate, executed jointly with both Iraqi forces and Sahwa members.
An MNF press release said the operation is in Al-Naqeeb and Al-Mouleb towns in south Diyala, which is located in northeast Baghdad.
The aim of the operation is to prevent Al-Qaeda from launching attacks using explosive devices and to deploy Iraqi forces near main roads used by coalition forces and Iraqi civilians, it added.
It pointed out that the operation was so far successful despite the killing of an Iraqi soldier in an explosion.
The release did not reveal when the operation started or how many Al-Qaeda militants were arrested or killed.
