Nantes said Tuesday that Klasnic had reached an agreement with club president Waldemar Kita and was to put pen to paper before the end of the week.

He was linked with Spanish clubs Real Mallorca and Osasuna as well as with England’s Wigan Athletic before the deal with Nantes was struck.

Klasnic, 28, famously underwent a kidney transplant in March 2007 and returned to professional football last autumn. He later attacked Bremen club doctors for not having detected his illness.

The Germany-born Klasnic was part of Croatia’s Euro 2008 squad and scored two goals at the tournament in Austria and Switzerland.
