The police in Sinaloa state Thursday said they recovered nine bodies in and around a car repair shop in Culiacan, the state capital.

“All of them were murdered with high-calibre weapons fired by an armed squad,” the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) said in a statement.

The same morning armed gang also shot dead two police officers on patrol and fatally injured a third in different incidents in the city, the statement said.

The deaths of three officers bring to 60 the number of police personnel killed by traffickers till date this year in Sinaloa.

Governor Jesus Alberto Aguilar Padilla had said earlier this week that murders had “increased exponentially” in recent days, and attributed the violence to inter-gang fighting among the drug cartels for control of the most lucrative transit points and routes.
