Commenting on a news report that quoted sources in the prime minister’s office (PMO) as saying that Advani told Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that he was unable to convince his colleagues to support the deal.

BJP spokesperson Ravishakar Prasad said: “The reports are baseless. If the PM has the guts, he should make his officials speak on the record on this issue.”

The spokesman also denied as “false” and “baseless” a report that Manmohan Singh met former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in December 2007 in the company of Advani and that the BJP had agreed to back the deal.
