The 11 rebels were killed in an ongoing operation of the Turkish army backed by fighter jets and helicopters in Hakkari province which borders Iran and Iraq, said the statement.

The lastest deaths brought the death toll of the PKK rebels in the past five days to 33. One day ago, the Turkish military said that a total of 22 PKK rebels have killed in the operations staged by the Turkish security forces in southeastern Turkey in the past four days.

The PKK rebels have battled more than two decades for autonomy in southeastern Turkey and they use strongholds in northern Iraq for cross-border raids. About 40,000 people have been killed in the over-two-decade conflict.
