Equity markets maintain modest gain early afternoon

Mumbai : Indian equity markets were maintaining their modest gains early Wednesday afternoon, with buying interest in banking, capital goods, technology and select metal stocks.

At 12:30 p.m., the 30-share benchmark index of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the Sensex, was up by 124.53 points or 0.98 percent at 12,800.72. At the day’s high it had touched 12,935.25.

At the same time the broader based S&P CNX Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange was up by 24.10 points or 0.62 percent at 3885.20.

However, the market breadth was negative. On BSE, 922 shares advanced, 1,370 declined and 79 remained unchanged.
