Briefing reporters after a meeting of the chief ministers of the NDA-ruled states, Jaitley said: “This government is slipping in numbers. There are many MPs outside the NDA who are against this government.”

Jaitley said the NDA chief ministers discussed the political strategy to defeat the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government in the trust vote.

He said the NDA would highlight the “failure” of the government in controlling inflation along with its “inability” to protect national interests in the India-US nuclear deal.

The UPA government is seeking the trust vote after the Left parties pulled out their support to it July 9 following differences over the nuclear deal and reduced it to a minority.
